Sunday, October 1
I don't know about you, but some months feel like a week and some weeks feel like a month. For example, last week felt like a month but September felt like a week. No joke! And here we are in October. In all honesty, it feels kind of surreal. I say that because there was so much build up and effort put into the opening of Westbrook. We did not really have time to think about what September, October or November would look like. I will tell you what it looks like, it looks pretty awesome and likely better than we could have imagined. I knew we had a incredible staff, but we had no idea we would have such a supportive, positive and amazing community. And our Solaire neighbors across the street cannot wait to come over to Westbrook to work with our students. With all of this support, we will be able to help our students learn and grow like never before! It is so much fun to be a part of it all!
We recognized our Organized students at an assembly on Friday. The students were so respectful as they learned about their organized classmates. It was a great assembly including the microphone's batteries dying and a visit by a fire truck, but hey, we know how to roll with it! Next month, we will recognize our Cooperative students. I can't promise it will be equally eventful, but fun nonetheless.
A HUGE thank you to Jason Perrone!! He and MoJoe's partnered to collect book donations for our library. But rather than just give the books to the library, he wanted the kids to get to check them out first, so he helped coordinate a 'Reading Recess.' We had the books out at lunch recess with yoga mats and carpet squares available to sit on. The kids absolutely loved it. They enjoyed it so much I think we may need to make this a Westbrook option at recess throughout the year! If you don't know, Jason was a local teacher and is now a local real estate agent. He has taken Westbrook under his wing with generous donations and reading in classrooms to give teachers extra prep time. He has a heart of gold.
Touchdown Tuesday: The West Park football players will be on campus this Tuesday, yay!! I don't know who is more excited, the football players get pretty excited about playing at recess!
